Rhea Knives are hand forged in the manner of
old world craftsmanship. I use several steels in the blade
construction. I make hunting knives primarily, but also enjoy making
Bowie knives.
This is the 8th knife that I will
offer at the Fisk Micro Show. It has a bold damascus pattern
made of three steels. This is the first time for me to combine
three steels. I wrapped the 1084 around the spine, clip, and
cutting edge. To do this I split the end of the bar where the
tip was to be and forged it together. The split was "V" shaped
so the ends could swing together in one weld. This brought the
1084 completely around the blade and connected at the tip. I had
envisioned the 1084 to be darker than the other steels, which it
is, and creating a frame for the pattern.
I also used a
checkering tool to groove the handle pattern. Its very simple,
but frames the domed pins and adds purchase to the grip. As you
can tell, Blackwood is one of my favorite woods. Sheath by
Kenny Rowe.
